Airbnb is doing more than most other companies in light of the current situation. Many people in this comment section seem to be shocked by the morals of firing 25% of the company–even giving hate to the author himself. But Airbnb is clearly moving in a different direction. None of us can deny that when this pandemic is over, the world we’re returning to won’t be the same. If you noticed, all of the people Airbnb let go are from the Hotels, Expansion, Luxury teams. All teams they don’t need anymore. The company doesn’t need the people and keeping them on would only hurt the business. Airbnb isn’t good for anyone if they go bankrupt. The CEO paying their salary out of pocket isn’t a long-term solution at all. They wouldn’t have anything to do due to the reduced size of the company and eventually they’d have to be let go anyway. Airbnb did a great job of compensating for this through providing every resource necessary to keep them on their feet and stay afloat in the tough times.
